Based in the
City of Dunfermline in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland (20 mins North
of Edinburgh). The Scottish Goshin Jitsu Academy are a small group
of clubs teaching the ancient art of Ju-Jitsu. It is our intention
as a non-political organisation to develop a greater appreciation
of the art and to actively promote it as a means of self defence.
As with most
Ju-Jitsu Schools, the academy teaches a wide range of techniques
including Kicking and Punching, Grappling and Throwing, and basic
introduction to the weapons used by the Samurai in ancient times.
On attaining satisfactory progress and skill, students or Ju-Jitsu-ka
of the Mudansha (un-ranked) class, are graded within an 8 colour
belt system starting with Red and finishing with Brown/White. Coloured
Belts are referred to as Kyu Grades.
When you have completed this journey you are then put forward for
assessment to become Yudansha (Ranked), it is on attaining this
promotion that the coveted Black Belt or Dan grade is issued. In
order to maintain the highest of standards it is mandatory that
promotion to this level and above must be conducted by Shihan Billy
Doak 8th Dan Ju-Jitsu, 4th Dan Judo, who is the Chief Instructor
of our Governing Body, the Goshin Ju-Jitsu Association UK.
