Ju - Jitsu
Ju-Jitsu as an art, is reputed to be over 2000 years old and is
repeatedly mentioned in Japanese folklore and historical records.
The art was developed by the Bushi, later known as the Samurai warriors, was used as a means of self defence when they were separated from
their weapons. As a result, these elite soldiers of feudal Japan,
who were best known for their skill with the Katana (sword), became
extremely proficient in hand to hand combat.
The hand to hand techniques employed by each clan were continuously
refined and eventually the clans began to form schools, or Ju-Jitsu
Ryu, to ensure that their troops were as effective on the battlefield
as possible. These schools were the basis of modern
Ju-Jitsu clubs the world over.
Our club teaches these traditional skills and adapts them for self defence in present day.
